Full Farm Apprentice Needed!!
Hey everyone. If you ever read this blog and wish you had my job, now is your chance. A new apprenticeship position just opened and you are welcome to apply to join me on this beautiful farm. I am an apprentice myself, so not the one hiring, but feel free to write and ask me questions or to pass the word on to friends and fellow food enthusiasts.
At this point in the season we are getting well underway into the vegetables and the cows have just moved out to pasture. The initial routine skills will have to be learned quite quickly, so previous farm/garden experience is recommended.
The job description is as follows.
Hawthorne Valley Farm, a diversified, Demeter certified Biodynamic
farm, is looking for one Whole Farm Apprentice, starting now through
at least Thanksgiving, 2012. Please see our website,
www.hawthornevalleyfarm.org for more detailed information. Our
apprentices work with and learn about the interrelationships between
our milking herd of 60 grass-fed cows, our rotational grazing system,
the twelve-acres of mixed vegetable fields, and get an overview of the
administration of our 285-member Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
program. Our apprentices are expected to work well with others, to
have some patience and a drive to get things done. A sense of humor
is always useful!
As apprentices we are also part of CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training) in which we take part in regional farm visits, skills, workshops and tours.
